Requirements:

  • Firm issued user account
  • Access to the firm's resources hosted in Microsoft's Office 365 services
  • An Adroid or iOS/iPadOS device that meets firm requirements (Check this article to see if your device qualifies: Mobile Device Policy)

Overview:

In order to access the firm's resources via your mobile phone or tablet, the device must first be added to firm's Intune. You will add your mobile devices to Intune through a process called enrollment, which you will do through an app you download to your device. Once enrolled, Intune will help ensure that your device meets necessary security requirements while still maintaining your personal privacy. Once your device is enrolled, you may then need to install additional apps in order to access the various resources available to you.

NOTE: With these mobile management policies, email will no longer be accessible from your device's native email client. If you had previously added your firm account to your device in this manner, it will need to be removed. For instructions on how to do this, as provided by an outside group, please see these instructions: Removing Email Accounts

Supported Devices

The Intune Mobile Management system we are deploying will be used to “enroll” personal devices in firm policies. You will need to enroll the following types of devices:

  • Personal, non Firm-owned mobile phones running Android or iOS
  • Personal, non Firm-owned tablets using Android or iPadOS

For a full list of supported device types and requirements please see: Smith + Howard Approved mobile device policy

Getting Started: Enroll Your Device

Once you have verified that your device can be enrolled with the firm’s Intune policies, the process is simple and can usually be done in approximately 10 minutes.

  1. You will install the Intune Company Portal app to your device
  2. After the app is installed, you will use the app to enroll your device in Intune
  3. During the enrollment process you may need to adjust certain security settings on your device, including
    • Your device will be required to have a PIN
      • At least 6 characters
      • Newer than one year. If your existing PIN is older than one year you will be required to make a new PIN
    • Changes to what can be seen on a locked screen

Complete instructions for enrolling your device can be found in these articles:

Next Steps: Accessing and Using Firm Resources

After your device is enrolled in Intune, you will need to use approved apps to access firm resources. The types of apps you will need to use along with where you use the app will depend upon your type of device, which we will cover more in our How-to articles linked below. Some major points that will apply to everyone include

  • If you had previously used your device’s native email client (Gmail or the Mail App), you will need to use the Outlook app now for email now. The built-in apps’ access will be disabled in one week.
  • Your work email and personal email may no longer be in the same location
  • Your firm contacts will be accessible through Outlook but can be synchronized to your device’s native contacts. You will need to begin saving any personal contacts to a new service, such as Google Contacts or iCloud Contacts.
