This article includes instructions on how to begin chats Cisco Jabber. This application is included with all firm-issued workstations and can be used, among other things, to message firm colleagues.


Requirements

  • Firm-issued workstation
  • Firm-issued telephone number/Extension
  • Connection to the Firm network via wired, in office wireless, or VPN
  • Jabber running and signed in

Overview

You can start a chat session to your Smith & Howard colleagues through Jabber. The chat sessions can be between two or more people, and can allow you to send messages, files, or share your screen. For more information about Jabber, see:

    Beginning a chat session with a person not saved in your Jabber contacts

    1. In the Hub window, enter the name of a co-worker in the search bar at the top
    2. Mouse over the information panel that comes up. If this person is available, a "Chat" button will appear. Click the "Chat" button
    3. The chat window will open

    Beginning a chat session with a person saved as a contact

    This will begin a chat session with a person saved to your Jabber contacts. For information on adding people to your Jabber contacts, please see the article: Adding Contacts in Cisco Jabber
    1. In the Hub window, hover your mouse cursor over the contact you would like to chat with
    2. If the contact is available, a chat button will appear. Click the chat button
    3. A chat window will open
