This article includes instructions on how to begin a phone call from within Cisco Jabber. This application is included with all firm-issued workstations and can be used, among other things, to place and control phone calls.
Requirements
- Firm-issued workstation
- Firm-issued telephone number/Extension
- Connection to the Firm network via wired, in office wireless, or VPN
Overview
Phone calls can be started from within Jabber's Hub window to either saved contacts or to phone numbers that have not previously been saved. The call can be made either through the computer itself, or through the desk phone, depending on the mode Jabber is set to. For more information, see:
Placing a phone call to a contact from the Hub window
The Hub window is a quick way to start a phone call to a saved
contact. For more information on Jabber contacts, see Adding Contacts in Cisco Jabber.
Note: The method the call takes place in will depend on the Call
Handling mode Jabber is in. If it is in "Desk Phone" mode, calls will
be placed through the desk phone. If Jabber is in "Computer" mode, it
will use your computer to place the call.
- From the Hub window, hover over the contact that you wish to call
- Click the "Phone" icon for the contact
- If the contact has multiple numbers, select the number you wish to call
Placing a call to a number not saved to your contacts (Dialing a new number)
The Hub's search bar is the quick way to dial numbers that are not already saved to a contact.
Note: The method the call takes place in will depend on the Call
Handling mode Jabber is in. If it is in "Desk Phone" mode, calls will be
placed through the desk phone. If Jabber is in "Computer" mode, it will
use your computer to place the call.
- Open the Hub window
- Enter the number you need to dial in the search bar at the top of the window, in this example, we will dial 404-881-4300
- Click the green phone button to the right of the search bar or press the "Enter" key on the keyboard to start the phone call
