This article includes instructions on how to phone calls coming in to your firm extension to a different phone number using Cisco Jabber. This application is included with all firm-issued workstations and can be used, among other things, to receive and control phone calls.
Requirements
- Firm-issued workstation
- Firm-issued telephone number/Extension
- Connection to the Firm network via wired, in office wireless, or VPN
- Jabber running and signed in
- NOTE: You cannot forward calls to a long distance number, only to numbers with the following area codes: 404, 470, 678, 770.
- UPDATE: If forwarding to a long distance number then you will need to submit a help desk ticket - You can submit a ticket HERE, or by emailing the help desk at [email protected]
Overview
Phone calls coming in to your Smith & Howard extension can be automatically forwarded to a different number (either internal or external) using Jabber. If Jabber is set to this Call-Handling mode, then calls cannot be received on either your desk phone or through your computer. For more information about Jabber, see:
Automatically forwarding incoming calls with Jabber
To set Jabber to the "Forward calls to..." Call-Handling Mode
- Open the Jabber Hub Window
- Select the icon in the lower-left corner of the window (Note: The icon you see will vary, depending on the mode you are in at the moment)
- Under "Forward calls", there is a drop down menu, select Line 1 then select the number you would like calls forwarded to
- The icon in corner of the Hub window will change, and call handling will begin forwarding your calls immediately. Jabber will note in the Hub window that your calls are forwarded

End call forwarding
- To stop forwarding incoming phone calls, click the notice at the bottom of the Hub Window
- Jabber will revert to the previous Call-Handling mode
Forwarding to a number not saved in the "Forward calls to..." list
- Open the Jabber Hub Window
- Select the icon in the lower-left corner of the window (Note: The icon you see will vary, depending on the mode you are in at the moment)
- Select "Forward calls to" then select "New number..."
- A window will open, enter the new number in the window, including the area code. (NOTE: Put "8" before entering the new number and put "81" before long distance numbers)

- Click "Forward"
