How to re-register Multifactor Authentication Methods
Requirements:
- S+H Credentials
- Microsoft Authenticator App
- Microsoft Edge
- Internet Connection
- Camera (QR code scan)
Overview:
This article will guide the member on how to re-register Multifactor Authentication Methods on a new phone. This will assist in regaining access to Smith + Howard managed apps and to ensure that the new phone is compliant with S+H Security Policies.
Launch the Microsoft My Sign-ins page:
- Open Edge and in a new tab search "Microsoft My Sign-ins", members can also use this link to access the page: S+H | mysignins.Microsoft
- Once the member is within the My Sign Ins Security dashboard, navigate to Security Info where the member will be shown all active sign-in methods as well as additional methods that can be added.
- In the screenshot above we can see that their is an active Microsoft Authenticator MFA method that is setup, this will be the active MFA that was setup on the previous phone. We will need to remove this option by clicking the Delete button on the right, once deleted as an option we can select "Add sign-in method" > Authenticator App > Add.
- Once the "Add" button is selected, members will be met with a "Get the App" popup, Microsoft Authenticator App should already be installed on your phone, click Next. On the next screen, it will provide instructions to add your account as "Work or School account".

On the next screen, it will provide instructions to add member's account as "Work or School account", when selecting Next a QR code will display that can be used for setup, first login, and connecting Authenticator App to your account. Screenshots attached for this step show the prompt on Edge and the Add account menu in the Authenticator App.
- When Prompted to scan the QR code on screen, click Next first then using the Authenticator App Scan QR code option on scan the code on screen. Members will then be met with a prompt to approve login using a two digit code, enter this code in the Authenticator app to successfully login and complete setup process of member account.
- Once the two-digit code is entered, a prompt will be shown that MFA setup is approved and complete.
- Once Authenticator App for MFA setup is complete, members can continue setting up other Smith + Howard approved apps on the mobile device.
