Overview:


This is a short article that guides users on how to permanently delete a file. This method is different from a regular delete, because permanently deleting will not send the item to the recycle bin.


Permanently Deleting an Item:


  1. Open File Explorer 

  2. Once opened navigate to the item and select it. Make sure it is check marked. Once selected. Click on the Home tab along the top ribbon of file explorer. 

  3. Once you see the Home tab. Look for the Red X labeled Delete. Click on the dropdown underneath it and select "Permanently Delete" Make sure the file you wanted deleted is still selected. 

  4. You will be prompted with another window asking "Are you sure you want to permanently delete this file?" Verify that it is the correct file and select Yes. 
  5. You have now completed the permanent delete.
