Software Install Restrictions

To protect the systems from potentially malicious software and to ensure a more secure and stable environment we now restrict the ability to install software on the Firm workstations. Software updates and fixes from some of our most common vendors are automatically approved (partial list below) but otherwise you will need to contact the HelpDesk to receive approval to install software. The same issue will come up should you need to change some of the windows settings.

What does the request box look like?

The settings and software install request box looks like this the image below. It will always have the firm logo, if it does not have the firm logo then it is most likely a phishing attempt and should be reported.

How does it work?

If you need to install the software then send us the following information:

  1. Name of the software, company who makes it, and the version. A link to the website is helpful
  2. The business reason for why you need the software installed
  3. The Response request code
NOTE: It is import to not close the window until after you enter the code supplied by the HelpDesk. Every time the window opens a new code is generated and so any previous codes is invalidated.
  4. Once you have the Response Code back from the HelpDesk enter it and click OK
  5. The software will install or the setting you are trying to change will unlock and you will be able to complete the task you are attempting
  6. This is a one time event, should you need to install again or change the setting again you will need another code.
