Requirements:
- Firm issued laptop with CaseWare Working Papers installed and activated
- A SmartSync file copy on your local computer
- An active connection to the Firm network via local office connection (best), in office WiFi (second best), or VPN (recommend high speed connection)
Overview:
This article will walk you through 2 methods of deleting the local SmartSync copy. This will update the server parent copy, ensure all changes have been saved, and will unlock the parent copy to allow it to be locked down if needed.
-
Deleting Single SmartSync Copy
- This will be effective in ensuring your recent changes sync to a CW file and then deleting your copy for proper lockdown or updates to the main file
-
Mass Deleting SmartSync Copies
- This is recommended when you want to delete any CW files you know are no longer being worked on and your changes are unneeded. This is also good for clearing up space
Deleting Single SmartSync Copy
- Open CaseWare Working Papers
- Open the SmartSync copy of the file you wish to update on the server and remove from the local workstation
- Once the file is open, go to the SmartSync or Cloud tab
- On the SmartSync tab click on Delete Copy
- Follow all on screen prompts, read any warnings carefully and allow the process to fully complete before disconnecting, shutting down, or closing CaseWare.
Mass deleting SmartSync Copies
1. Open CaseWare Working Papers
2. Confirm your local files are synced to their Parent copy.
- At the bottom of the Recent Files view. Click Synchronize all and then Synchronize in the pop up box
4. After you confirmed all your local copies are synced, verify that Caseware, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Acrobat are closed and not in use.
5. Look at your recent files and look at the filepath your files are being saved under. In most cases this is the path your personal Sync Copies are being stored: C:\ProgramData\SmithHoward\CWSS\[yourname] or C:\Program Files (x86)\CaseWare\Data
6. Once you are within the path, highlight/select and delete them. This may take several minutes depending on how many sync copies you have stored.
7. It is general rule of thumb to delete any files that you have not personally modified in the past 4 months. If you need to keep these files, that is fine, but if files are going to be converted, migrated, or changed, this deletion is necessary
